The Yale Spizzwinks(?) are America's first and oldest underclassman a cappella group. Since 1914, they have entertained audiences around the world with a unique blend of sweet harmony and tongue-in-cheek humor.

The Spizzwinks(?) will be performing tomorrow night at their 98th Anniversary Jam! When Mike Thompson was only 10 years old, he was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia, a rare form of blood cancer found in children.  Chances of survival were slim because it is an adult Leukemia within a child. However,   Thompson is a warrior, and he and his family and friends would never accept defeat. Since his diagnosis in 1995, Thompson has undergone 76 operations, including two bone marrow transplants and facial reconstruction surgery that replaced part of his jawbone with the fibula of his left leg, all in an effort to beat the disease. Thompson is not only an inspiration to us and anyone who knows him, but a respected athlete in the Austin community. Living out his motto, “failure is not an option,” has pushed him to not only beat cancer four times, but also encouraged him to complete a long record of physical feats. If you are in Austin, TX, don't be surprised if you find an energetic Mikey running by you on your walk, riding by your window while at a stoplight or sweating next to you in a bikram yoga class.  We appreciate him for posting intriguing photos and quotes on his facebook as he keeps hammering away daily to reach his physical and philanthropic goals. Mike informed, "Since I started training for endurance events, I've completed a marathon, two half Ironman races and numerous smaller triathlons. The friendships that have been forged through this process will last a lifetime, and will keep bringing me back long after we have found a cure. I am now registered for the first annual Ironman Texas. The 140.6 mile long race will take place in The Woodlands, Texas on May 21st of this year. Throughout my training, I have been raising money for LLS through the Go Mitch Go Foundation." [caption id="attachment_1989" align="aligncenter" width="129" caption="Swimming, Riding and Running for Mitch!"][/caption] Go Mitch Go was founded by John and Tracy Whitaker, honoring their son, Mitchell, who lost his battle with Leukemia on September 27, 2007. "Throughout the Ironman course - a 2.4 mile swim, 112 mile bike, and 26.2 mile run - I will be thinking about Mitch, and of all those who still fight through their own battle with cancer, and will be dedicating it to those who we have loved and lost to this disease" Iron Mikey will be having a Post Ironman Victory Party to celebrate his accomplishments.  He is selling his tickets online using Ticketbud and all of the proceeds with go to the GoMitchGo Foundation.
